NK Requests Food Aid from China, US, Europe

North Korea has reportedly requested food aid from China, the United States and Europe.

A source said Thursday that China has responded to Pyongyang's request, providing 30-thousand tons of corn and 20-thousand tons of rice since February.

The source said China’s food shipments are estimated to reach 150-thousand tons if they continue until July.

North Korea also reportedly requested that Washington step up provision of 500-thousand tons of food aid it had pledged earlier. However, the source said it's not certain when the U.S. will provide the aid.

Pyongyang has failed to receive positive responses from European countries.
