Pentagon lifts employee light ban against Korean Air

Airline officials said Tuesday the U.S. Department of Defense removed a flight ban against Korean Air imposed nearly two years ago, concluding that it was safe again for its employees to use the South Korean carrier.
A formal notification from the department's Commercial Aircraft Review Board (CARB) said an on-site check in August verified that Korean Air has met the safety guidelines required by the department.
The Pentagon imposed a temporary non-use order against the South Korean airline in December 1999 for employees traveling for official purposes after the airline suffered a string of crashes.
Korean Air has placed its pilots and flight crew in Boeing's flight safety program and installed additional safety equipment on the aircraft since the accident.
