WHO: ‘No AI Reported in NK’

North Korea does not have any reported cases of avian influenza.

Voice of America said the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have no bird flu reports from the North.

WHO said Pyongyang has implemented preventive measures and boosted quarantine inspections against the bird flu, a disease deadly to poultry.

Meanwhile, an FAO spokesman told the U.S. government-funded broadcaster that the North was well aware of bird flu risks, noting its proximity to China and South Korea and its active agricultural trade with China.

Since the first avian influenza case was reported in 2005, North Korea has received technological and financial support from WHO to fight the disease.
