Chinese investment in North Korea has jumped about 100 percent since October 2006.

China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported Thursday that the country's investment in North Korea in 84 areas reached 260 million dollars as of January this year.

According to the Web site of China’s Embassy in North Korea, Chinese investment in the North stood at 135 million dollars as of October 2006.

The surge is attributed to Beijing's approval of new investment projects in North Korea after a six-party nuclear agreement was reached on February 13th, 2007. China had suspended or canceled investments going into the North after Pyongyang's nuclear test in October 2006.
