The Italian Embassy in Seoul said Thursday a service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Italian participation in the Korean War (1950-53) will take place Friday at the Italian Memorial .
The service will be held in Wooshin Elementary School, Yongdungpo-ku, and will be hosted by Italian Ambassador to South Korea Carlo Trezza and the chairman of the Korean Veterans Association.
In December 1951, the Italian Armed Forces sent South Korea its 100-bed Field Hospital No. 68. The hospital was located on the grounds of the elementary school.
Gianluigi Ragazzoni, hospital commander at the time, and seven of his colleagues returned to Korea for the event.
