S. Korea to dispatch medical unit to Afghanistan

South Korea will dispatch a medical support unit to Afghanistan by the end of November to aid the U.S.-led anti-terrorist war.
A spokesman of the Defense Ministry said Thursday the United States wants South Korea to send a medical support unit. The government has decided to dispatch liaison officers to the United States to talk about details, including the unit's mission, location of deployment and tour of duty.
The spokesman said the government will speed up the parliamentary approval for the dispatch of the one hundred-50 member medical unit. He said the unit will likely be deployed by the end of this month.
According to reports, the United States also wants a transport unit from South Korea.
He said the ministry will also consider South Korea's participation in a U.N. peace keeping force led by the United States, if requested.
