Renowned Novelist Dies at 82

A memorial service is being held for one of the nation’s greatest novelists, Park Kyong-ni.

Park died Monday at the age of 82 after suffering a stroke.

Born in 1926 in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, Park is best known for her epic series,
"Land.” It took her 26 years to write the book considered to be one of the greatest achievements in Korean literature.

A funeral service for the novelist will be held in her hometown on Friday.

On Tuesday, the government will honor Park posthumously for her contributions to Korean literature.
