The head of the 2012 Yeosu Expo organizing committee has presented to the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) its detailed plans for hosting the world event.
Committee Chairman Chang Seung-woo presented the report to BIE Secretary General Vicénte Loscertales during a meeting in Paris on Tuesday.
At the meeting, Chang explained that the South Korean city had little time to prepare for the event. He urged the BIE to help Yeosu gain early approval of its plans.
In order for Yeosu to launch active preparations, it must secure approval of its plans at this month’s BIE general assembly.
Last November, Yeosu won the right to host the 2012 World Expo in a vote of 140 BIE member countries.
The Yeosu World Expo will be held in the southern coastal city from May 12th to August 12th in 2012.
The World Expo is one of the so-called "big three" global events along with the Olympics and the World Cup. The Yeosu World Expo is expected to generate about ten trillion won, or about nine-point-eight billion dollars, for the local economy and 90 thousand jobs.
