UN Agency Gears Up for North Korea Census

Radio Free Asia reported Tuesday that a United Nations agency will soon begin preparing to carry out a census in North Korea this October.

According to the 'U.S. government-funded broadcaster, Bernard Coquelin, representative of the U.N. Population Fund in China, said the agency has already written its census questionnaire.

Coquelin, who recently returned to Beijing from a trip to Pyongyang, was quoted as saying that North Korea is faithfully implemening the agreement for the census. He also expected a good result, citing Pyongyang's enthusiasm for the population survey.

Around 140-thousand survey agents working for the U.N. Population Fund will conduct a 15-day census, visiting all households in North Korea. The final result is due around October next year.
