Civic Groups to Send Food Aid to NK

Amid reports of worsening food shortages in North Korea, South Korean civic groups are rolling up their sleeves to provide emergency food aid to the North.

The Korean Sharing Movement, an aid group for North Korea, said Friday it'll send 100 tons of rice to the North next Thursday and 50 tons of wheat flour the following Saturday.

The group said the food aid worth some 200-million won will be funded by its budget and the Anglican Church of Korea.

Another aid group, Good Neighbors, also said it'll send 40-million won worth of wheat flour and powered milk to nine childcare centers in the North.

An association of 16 civic groups is also holding a campaign to raise funds for food aid to the North.
