The Defense Ministry has test-fired a missile with a one hundred kilometer range.
In a statement, the ministry said the Agency for Defense Development launched the missile Thursday from a launch station on the west coast and the missile landed in the Yellow Sea between South Korea and China.
An Air Force spokesman said that the missile, after flying one hundred kilometers, hit a target 50 kilometers off Byonsan, a town on the western coast about two hundred kilometers south of Seoul.
He said the launch was part of South Korea's regular tests for missile development and that the government is publicly acknowledging the test to prevent `misunderstandings' in neighboring countries.
The ministry said the government has notified the United States of its missile test, as it is required to under a bilateral treaty on missile tests.
