Royal Records Taken to France Accessible Online

Ancient Joseon Dynasty royal records that were kept at the French National Library is now accessible to Koreans online.

The original copies can be viewed at the memorykorea.go.kr Web site.

Under an agreement with Paris, the Cultural Heritage Administration in Seoul started digitalization of the records in May of last year and completed the project this past March. The database launched on Friday.

Among Joseon royal records stolen by the French army during its 1866 invasion, 30 original books that Korea does not own and a 50-page long photo documentary of a royal procession can now be viewed at the Web site.
