A group of young Korean-American musicians in New York will hold a concert in honor of the New York Philharmonic's visit to Pyongyang.
In a news conference, the New York Phil's assistant concertmaster Michelle Kim and pianist Yeom Kyeong-a said Y. N. Philharmonic is organizing the special concert. They noted that the New York Philharmonic Orchestra's landmark performance in North Korea has initiated cultural exchanges with the United States.
Y. N. Philharmonic, which comprises about 60 ethnic Korean musicians, will hold its "thank-you" concert June ninth at New York's Lincoln Center. The orchestra had its inaugural concert May 17th at a church in New Jersey.
Through the special concert, the group wishes to share the excitement they had in Pyongyang with ethnic Koreans and other Americans. Concert organizers plan to invite the South and North Korean ambassadors to the United Nations and present a plaque of appreciation to New York Phil conductor Lorin Maazel.
