APEC to Respond to Cyberterrorim During Olympics

The nation has joined eleven other Asian countries in a cyberterrorism exercise held in preparation for the Beijing Summer Olympics.

The exercise was agreed on at a meeting of 12 member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum including Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia.

Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission Choi See-joong attended the meeting held in April in Thailand.

Member states will jointly respond to cyberterrorism threats such as distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on the official Olympic Web site.

DDoS attacks seek to paralyze networks and disable systems by causing mass Internet traffic. A similar attack disrupted the Internet service in 2003 in Korea.
