Unification Minister Kim Ha-joong is known to be positively considering attending a ceremony to mark the eighth anniversary of the June 15th, 2000 summit declaration.
Sources said that the host, Kim Dae Jung Peace Center, invited the unification minister to the event and that the minister is positively considering accepting the invitation.
The ceremony will be held at the 63 Building in Yeouido, Seoul, next Thursday.
Sources say the unification minister’s attendance may suggest that the conservative South Korean government doesn’t deny two inter-Korean summit declarations adopted by two former liberal presidents.
The center also invited President Lee Myung-bak and Prime Minister Han Seung-soo to the ceremony.
Other ceremonies for the June 15th Joint Declaration will be held in South Jeolla Province and Mt. Geumgang in North Korea. The two-day event at the North Korean resort will open on June 14th and be jointly held by the two Koreas.
