A government officials said Monday the on-site investigation of medieval Korean documents plundered from the royal library and transported to France will likely start next month for further negotiations on their return to Seoul.
An official noted the government recently decided on the on-site investigation and formed a team of four officials from Seoul National University and the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS).
The team will leave for Paris as soon as the French side approves the investigation which was agreed to at bilateral negotiations in Paris in July.
The on-site investigation of the documents will be the first since French troops absconded with some 300 documents from Oekyujanggak in 1866.
The two nations have negotiated the issue since 1993.
