U.S. Senate to celebrate 100th anniversary of Korean immigration

The United States Senate is moving forward with a resolution to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Korean immigration in January, 2003.
The following is the gist of the resolution to be submitted by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Nov. 30th:
The Senate introduces a resolution recognizing the historical significance of the 100th anniversary of Korean immigration to the United States.
In Dec. 1902, 56 men, 21 women and 25 children left Korea and traveled across the Pacific Ocean on the S.S. Gaelic and landed in Honolulu, Hawaii, in Jan., 1903.
The Senate recognized the achievements and contributions of Korean-Americans to the United States over the past one hundred years.
The Senate requests that the President issue a proclamation calling on people of the U.S. and interested organizations to observe the anniversary with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
