Safety Checks Under Way at Mt. Geumgang

As the summer rainy season draws near, the South Korean government on Thursday began a three-day safety examination of tourism facilities at the Mount Geumgang resort in North Korea.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said that seven South Korean experts will check roads, bridges and facilities at the tourist resort on the North's east coast. It's the second such safety check this year.

The ministry says that in the past, South Korean government officials participated in previous safety checks, but this year North Korea refused to allow in any of them.
