S. Korea Offers Communication Devices to NK

The government has decided to continue providing communications devices to North Korea.

A Unification Ministry spokesman said Seoul is providing the devices to Pyongyang due to difficulties in talking with the North via military equipment. Their provision was approved by a government committee on inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation.

The ministry spokesman said inter-Korean working-level discussions are still necessary to ease travel, communications and customs procedures at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex and the Mount Geumgang resort in North Korea.

But he added that the North has rejected such talks.

Pyongyang claimed Sunday that the tour project to Mount Geumgang and the Gaeseong Industrial Complex are in danger, accusing Seoul of not implementing an agreement on related inter-Korean projects.
