Gov’t to Take Tougher Measures against Online Problems

The Broadcasting Communications Commission has vowed to take stronger steps against the harms of the Internet.

A commission official told reporters Wednesday that the government will devise measures to counteract problems caused by the Internet, like the spread of baseless rumors and incorrect information.

The government is not considering introducing systems requiring Internet users to reveal their real name when posting messages online or having users pay punitive damages if they are found to have spread groundless and malicious rumors.

However, the official said that the government will expand a system that requires netizens to confirm their personal identity before posting messages on Internet portals.
