Experts Cound Not Determine Firing Distance

Forensics experts on Wednesday announced the results of its autopsy on the South Korean tourist shot to death last week by a North Korean soldier, saying it was difficult to judge the exact distance from which the bullets were fired.

Seo Jung-seok, the top forensics scientist at the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, told reporters that forensics experts found two gunshot wounds in the victim's body, in her chest and buttocks, and that she appeared to have been killed by "long-distance shooting."

However, Seo said that a shot fired from a distance greater than one or two meters is considered "long-distance shooting," adding that it is impossible to measure the exact distance without examining the site.

He noted that the bullets that penetrated the victim's body did fatal damage to her internal organs, including her liver and a lung.
