The Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization ended two days of a board meeting by extending the European Union's membership for another five years. The board meeting also agreed to negotiate a protocol with North Korea, which would detail compensation and other obligations on the part of Pyongyang in case of a nuclear accident. The meeting held in Seoul was attended by senior officials of South Korea, Japan and the United States ... executive members of the organization. The organization is a U.S.-led international consortium in charge of building two modern reactors on North Korea's northeastern coast. In a landmark agreement in 19-94, North Korea agreed to freeze its nuclear development program suspected by the United States as being used to make atomic bombs. In return, Washington promised to build safer reactors.
