Gov’t to Continue Gaeseong Project

The government says it will continue to seek stable development of the inter-Korean business project at the North’s Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

In the wake of the shooting of a South Korean tourist at North Korea's Mt. Geumgang resort, the relationship between the two Koreas has chilled.

Kim Yeong-tak, the head of the Gaeseong complex support team at the Unification Ministry, said that the inter-Korean business project should continue. However, he noted that it would be difficult to resume tours to the Mount Geumgang resort at the present time.

Speaking to South Korean manufacturers who operate in the North’s industrial complex, Kim urged them to concentrate on their operations although it might take awhile to resolve the transportation, communication and customs problems on the border.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Gaeseong Industrial District Management Committee, Shin Eon-Sang, expected inter-Korean relations to sail smoothly once again sometime soon.
