PM Regrets NK's Lack of Sincerity over Tourist Shooting

Prime Minister Han Seung-soo says it is regrettable that North Korea has not yet taken sincere measures for the killing of a South Korean tourist at its Mt. Geumgang resort.

A South Korean woman was shot dead by a North Korean soldier at the resort ten days ago.

He called on the North to accept South Korea’s demand for an inspection of the shooting site and to devise measures to prevent similar incidents.

Han said the government will not resume tours to the North Korean resort before the truth is uncovered and safety measures are in place.

The prime minister also ordered ministries to tackle Japan’s sovereignty claim over the Dokdo islets under a long-term strategy while stepping up capabilities to protect them.

He urged the Korea Meteorological Administration to work hard to increase the precision of its forecasts, as the agency has made a series of mistakes in predicting the weather.
