South Korean Assets Can be Retrieved from Geumgang

South Korea has tangible assets worth 270-million U.S. dollars at the North Korean resort of Mt. Geumgang, most of which are retrievable even if tours to the North Korean resort are suspended.

Hyundai Asan, the South Korean operator of tour programs to Geumgang, has assets worth more than 90-million U.S. dollars in the North Korean tourism zone.

Golf course developer Emerson Pacific invested 59-million U.S. dollars in a golf course at Geumgang.

The Korea Tourism Organization has tangible assets worth 88-million U.S. dollars there.

South Korea has no assets in Gaeseong, as tours to the North Korean city are run using North Korean facilities. But the South does have assets worth eight-point-two million U.S. dollars in the inter-Korean joint venture Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

Hyundai Asan believes there will be no difficulties in retrieving its assets from the North, even if it has to stop tour programs to Geumgang. It said that its property rights are guaranteed by an inter-Korean investment agreement signed in December 2000.
