South Korea beat the United States Sunday in their first World Cup rehearsal game held Soguipo, Jeju Island. South Korea's veteran skipper Yoo Sang-chul scored the only goal of the game after 20 minutes. The United States and South Korea are placed in the same group in the first round of the 2002 World Cup Finals. So, the match was as much a test of South Korea's soccer nerve as it was the country's technical preparation. Intense security was imposed on the 42,000 capacity-level crowd in the new stadium at Seoguipo on Jeju Island, which has been hailed as one of the most beautiful World Cup venues ever, on a slope between Mount Halla and the China Sea.
