Probe Team's Findings Different from NK Claim

A government investigator says the location at which a South Korean tourist was shot is believed to be about 200 meters away from the fences of a restricted military zone in North Korea, a discrepancy from the North’s claim of 300 meters.

Announcing the results of South Korea’s initial probe into the shooting Friday, Hwang Boo-gi told reporters that the South Korean victim, Park Wang-ja, is believed to have been killed before 5:16 a.m. on July eleventh. The results are based on witness testimony, photos and surveillance camera data from Park's hotel.

Hwang said a photo shot at 5:16 a.m. showed Park lying on the ground and a North Korean soldier.

The head of the probe team, however, said that an on-site investigation is needed to confirm the claim.
