FAO Expects Food Production Increase in NK

The U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization expects North Korea to increase its grain production by one-point-seven million tons to five-point-seven million tons this year.

The FAO said in a report that North Korea’s rice production will grow to one-point-six million tons this year from one-point-two million tons last year. The production of corn and other grains will total over four-point-one million tons.

The U.N. food agency predicted that Pyongyang will import 700-thousand tons of rice this year, up 300-thousand tons from last year. But it expected the North to reduce its imports of corn and other grains by 600-thousand tons to 100-thousand.

The FAO believes North Korea produced four-million tons of rice last year.
