Asan Compensates NK for Geumgang Tours

Hyundai Asan, the operator of tours to North Korea, says it paid 675-thousand dollars to the North last Friday for tours to Mount Geumgang in July.

The payment is for the 13-thousand South Koreans who visited the mountain resort from July first to the eleventh. On the eleventh, a South Korean tourist was shot and killed by a North Korean soldier at Geumgang after which tours were halted.

Asan pays 65 dollars per person to the North for the Geumgang tour.

As for the other North Korean tourist destination of Gaesong city, Asan plans to pay 900-thousand dollars to the North later this month for tours taken by 12-thousand South Koreans in July.
