South Korea will send a Foreign Ministry official to a multinational meeting for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. The two-day meeting is set to open in Brussels next Thursday. The United States, Japan, the European Union and Saudi Arabia are co-chairs of the meeting as agreed on at an earlier meeting on the issue held in Washington. Participants will discuss short- and long-term projects to rebuild the war-torn country. International agencies, including the U.N. Development Program, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank will also take part in the reconstruction projects. South and North Korea established diplomatic relations with Afghanistan in 19-73. South Korea cut off diplomatic ties five years later and North Korea followed suit in the early 19-90s.
