KBS President Jung Yun-joo has filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Administrative Court to nullify his dismissal approved by President Lee Myung-bak.
Earlier on Monday, President Lee accepted and signed the KBS Board of Governors’ proposal to dismiss Jung.
Shortly after, Jung filed the suit with the Seoul court, saying the president’s move was a clear violation of a law governing broadcasting. Broadcasting law stipulates the president's authority to appoint the KBS chief, but not to dismiss him.
Jung also raised issue with the reasons for his dismissal, saying the incurring of huge losses and poor management are not stipulated by the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) as reasonable grounds for dismissal.
Last Thursday, Jung filed a suit to nullify the BAI’s request, claiming the government auditor had no right to demand his dismissal.
After an eight-week audit of the public broadcaster, the BAI asked the KBS board last Tuesday to propose the dismissal of the KBS head, citing mismanagement and abuse of power.
Jung has headed the nation's flagship pubic service broadcaster for more than five years since being appointed in 2003 by former President Roh Moo-hyun.
