Amid a prolonged suspension of tourism to North Korea's Mount Geumgang, Hyundai Asan, which conducts the tour programs, plans to reduce its manpower at the resort and reorganize its headquarters.
The company said Wednesday that the overhaul plan comes as a result of only having 26 of its employees remaining at the resort following the withdrawal of an additional eleven workers.
Hyundai withdrew 25 workers from the resort last Monday under an emergency management plan following the shooting death of a South Korean tourist at Geumgang.
As tourism programs to the resort have been suspended for over a month now, the company decided to reduce the number of workers there to 26. It withdrew ten employees last weekend, followed by an additional eleven workers Wednesday.
The company plans to assign some of the withdrawn workers to positions at Gaeseong ― another facility in the North operated by Hyundai Asan.
The remaining workers will be relocated to the company's construction unit in an attempt to maximize its sales and profits from the sector for the remainder of this year.
