Unification Minister Kim Ha-joong urged North Korea Wednesday to take measures to prevent the recurrence of the shooting death of a South Korean tourist at the Mount Geumgang resort and to guarantee visitors' safety.

He made the remark at an event for separated families in Seoul, adding that the shooting incident should become an opportunity to enhance inter-Korean relations.

On Monday, a senior South Korean government official said Seoul is willing to seek an investigation into the shooting agreeable to both Koreas.

The minister also said the two Koreas should seek practical solutions to inter-Korean issues through dialogue, rather than confronting each other.
