North Korea is suggesting its people take part in a national physical fitness examination this and next month.

The Minju Josun, the official daily of the North's Cabinet, says the national physical examination is significant in terms of strengthening the nation's labor force and national defense.

The communist state has been holding the physical since July 1948. Men between the ages of nine and 60 years, and women between nine and 55 years, are eligible to take part in the examination.

In order to pass the physical, test takers must successfully complete eleven tests, including taekwondo, running and grenade throwing.
