About 10,000 temples spanning 27 Buddhist sects have held a simultaneous Buddhist service to protest President Lee Myung-bak and his government’s alleged discrimination against their religion.

The temples held the service Sunday morning after tolling a bell 33 times simultaneously and reading a statement protesting the government’s religious partiality and urging social unity.

Tens of thousands of Buddhists also marched through downtown Seoul Wednesday to protest bias versus their religion. Organizers estimated 200,000 thousand people took part, while police said 60,000.
