NK Mum on Energy Talks Proposal

The government says it is waiting for North Korea’s response to a request for discussions on the provision of economic and energy aid agreed to in the six-way nuclear talks.

Seoul requested talks with Pyongyang for the delivery of energy aid to the North. Participants of the nuclear negotiations agreed to complete the provisions by the end of this month.

A government official says there is a consensus among related countries to continue providing energy aid to the North for the time being, although such efforts could be affected if Pyongyang continues to halt the disablement of its Yongbyon nuclear facilities.

Pyongyang has cut off contacts with parties of the six-way nuclear talks, except the United States, since announcing last week that it has stopped nuclear disablement.
