The director of the Korean National Red Cross' (KNRC) inter-Korean relations department Min Byung-dai said Tuesday the Korean and Japanese Red Cross societies will set up a sanitarium for returning elderly ethnic Koreans from Sakhalin by providing $2.37 million dollars in funding. The official said the building, capable of accommodating 100 returnees, will be established adjacent to the Sakhalin Koreans Welfare Hall in Incheon. The official said the construction work will begin next spring and should be completed in one year. He added that details will be finalized at a meeting between the two bodies slated for next February.
