The justice ministry announced Wednesday that all children born out of an international marriage with a Korean maternal line may be allowed Korean national identity if they are born after June 14th, 1978. The ministry decided to enforce the new laws effective on December 18th which highlight the extension of the eligible age for mixed blood children to be included in the bracket of Korean nationals from the birth years of 1978 thru 1988. The justice ministry said it revised the national registration law since the current laws, which have been enforced since 1998, were ruled by the National Constitutional Court as having infringed upon the rights of equal opportunity.
