S. Korea, US, China to Discuss NK's Restoration

Nuclear negotiators from South Korea, the United States and China will hold talks in Beijing Friday on North Korea’s recent decision to restore its nuclear facilities at Yongbyon.

A South Korean diplomatic official in Washington said Thursday that he was notified of the trilateral meeting when he met with top U.S. nuclear envoy Christopher Hill.

The official added that both Seoul and Washington share the view that the current situation regarding the North has run into difficulties, but also agree that there is no need to overreact, and that the issue must be settled through dialogue.

The official also downplayed recent rumors that the North might conduct a second nuclear test.

According to the official, U.S. State Department personnel working at Yongbyon are keeping Washington updated on the situation in the communist state. The official said the North has shown no signs of expelling or restricting the operations of the U.S. personnel.
