Korean residents in Argentina report property damage from looting

The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry said Friday...the first Korean victims of property damage from riots in Argentina were reported near Buenos Aires. The Korean man was identified as Kim Joon-yeon, who runs a grocery store in San Martin, about 30 kilometers southwest of Buenos Aires. The ministry said...he is claiming 160,000 dollars in damages from looters. No physical harm was reported from the incident, and local police and the South Korean embassy are looking into his claim. The ministry said it was also looking into a foreign wire news report that a Korean couple committed suicide after their shop was pillaged. It said the couple does not appear to have been Korean. Foreign Ministry Official said Friday that the South Korean government has asked Argentine authorities earlier to dispatch police forces to a Korean residential area for additional protection.
