The female North Korean spy who entered South Korea disguised as a defector is currently on trial.

The Suwon District Court opened the first round of proceedings in the case against Won Jeong-hwa Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Won submitted a letter to court authorities, reportedly saying she wishes to convert to South Korean ideology.

An official at the district court wouldn't confirm the content of the letter. He only said Won apparently wrote it as a means of repenting for her wrongdoings, as she has admitted to most of the charges brought against her.

Another court official said the letter is a self-reflection and was not requested by the prosecution.
