Joint Summit Celebrations May Not be Held

Joint inter-Korean events on the first anniversary of the October fourth South-North summit declaration are unlikely to take place.

Organizers from the two Koreas planned to hold preparatory talks in the North’s border city of Gaeseong Thursday.

But the meeting fell through after South Korea refused North Korea's demand that the South exclude two members from its 14-member delegation to the preparatory talks.

Former South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il on October fourth last year. The landmark inter-Korean summit - the second since 2000 - produced a number of economic cooperation agreements.

The agreements were put on hold after President Lee Myung-bak of the conservative Grand National Party was inaugurated in February.
