The government is likely to provide food aid to North Korea soon.

Unification Minister Kim Ha-joong said in a report to the National Assembly last week that the government has yet to decide on the timing and the scope of the food assistance.

The government is still weighing on whether to deliver the aid directly or to provide it indirectly through the World Food Program.

Various academic and civic groups have urged food aid for the North since the U.N. food agency requested Seoul send food to the North late last month.
