While the South Korean government is deliberating on whether to provide food aid to North Korea, the National Human Rights Commission will do its part to address the issue within the month.

A Seoul-based civic group helping North Koreans says the commission will discuss whether to recommend the government resume food aid to the North.

Opinion within the commission is reportedly split over food aid for the impoverished country.

Some commision members want speedy provision of aid while others are opposed, citing the need for stronger monitoring mechanisms.
