Gov't: Inter-Korean Pact to Cost 14.3 Tln Won

The implementation of inter-Korean economic projects agreed to at last year's inter-Korean summit is expected to cost 14-point-three trillion won.

The Unification Ministry revealed the statistics for the first time in a report handed to a ruling party lawmaker.

South Korea's former President Roh Moo-hyun and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il agreed last October to cooperate on some 40 economic projects.

The ministry says over eight trillion won will be needed for repairing and building railways and roads, three-point-three trillion won for the second developmental phase of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex and close to one-point-five trillion won for creating a special peace zone in the West Sea.

The ministry said the amount is only an estimate, adding that the exact amount will be determined after completing site surveys and further discussions on the magnitude of the projects.
