NSO publishes Korea's social indicators

The National Statistical Office (NSO) said Tuesday South Koreans work for an average of 47.5 hours a week and a majority of them spend their free time watching TV. According to the the NSO-published "2001 Korea's social indicators, an adult South Korean consumes an average 85.6 liters of liquor a year and the average per capita annual income stands at $8,603 dollars. The average number of family members of a household continued to decline to 3.1 last year. In particular, one-member households accounted for 15.5 percent of the total households. Koreans worked for an average 47 hours and 30 minutes last year, down 24 minutes from a year earlier. The average monthly wage was about 1.64 million won. About 63 percent of those surveyed said they watch TV during free time, followed by sleeping with 50.7 percent.
