NHRC to Set up NK Human Rights Committee

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea has unveiled plans to set up a special committee on North Korean human rights.

The envisioned committee will review key issues concerning Pyongyang’s human rights situation and will brief parliamentary committees on its findings.

The commission’s chairman, Ahn Kyong-whan, is scheduled to appoint three to five members for the special committee early next month.

The commission had operated a five-member special committee on North Korea’s human rights in January 2006.
