Koreas to Celebrate Summit Anniversary Separately

The two Koreas have failed to reach an agreement on the holding of a joint ceremony to mark the first anniversary of the second inter-Korean summit, which took place on October fourth last year.

Members of a South Korean committee supporting the June 15th inter-Korean joint statement discussed joint celebrations with North Korea in Gaeseong city in the North Monday.

But Pyongyang is refusing to participate in joint events, noting recent icy inter-Korean relations and the spread of rumors in the South regarding the health of the North's leader, Kim Jong-il.

As a result, the two Koreas will celebrate the summit anniversary separately without issuing a joint statement.
