First Aircraft Designated as Cultural Asset

The Cultural Heritage Administration says the first domestically manufactured light aircraft “Buhwal,” which means "rebirth" in Korean, has been designated a cultural asset.

The Buhwal aircrafts were used for military training until 1960 but were decommissioned and disappeared from the public view.

In 2004 a Buhwal fuselage was found in storage at Kyeongsang Technical High School in Daegu. The Air Force restored the aircraft and applied for the cultural asset designation.

The administration also made six additional cultural asset designations related to the Korean War, including a lookout tower in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province and an army command post in Jeju Island.
