DP Vows Efforts to Thaw Inter-Korean Ties

South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party will attempt to implement an inter-Korean agreement struck last year as the party’s lawmakers visit the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.

About 50 party lawmakers Thursday made a one-day trip to the North Korean city to mark the first anniversary of the October 4th inter-Korean summit declaration.

Party Chairman Chung Sye-kyun said that his party will actively seek the holding of reconciliation talks with North Korean politicians in an attempt to thaw frozen inter-Korean ties.
Chung added that the party leadership would even be willing to visit Pyongyang to meet its officials.

The chairman also called on President Lee Myung-bak and his government to make the implementation of the October 4th agreement more of a priority and to soften its hard-line stance toward the North to ease ongoing tension.
